On Egypt's eastern Sinai peninsula, Taba is a small border town and a fantastic spot for those looking for a chilled-out break away from the larger crowds. Popular with locals, this unusual and interesting Red Sea resort is known for its diving, snorkelling and water sports, but there are other things to see and do as well.

If you do take the plunge, you'll see unspoilt coral reefs and amazing marine life. The sites are particularly good for less experienced divers. Look out for rays, dolphins, turtles and even some species of shark! Red Sea Water World at Taba Heights is Egypt's only five star water sports and diving centre.

Taba is at the point where four countries meet, so you can think about excursions to places like Eliat in Israel or Petra in Jordan. Closer to the resort, you can visit nearby Pharaoh's Island, one of Egypt's lesser known but major forts, and once visited by Lawrence of Arabia.
