With its population of under 30,000, Paphos in south-western Cyprus essentially divides into two the inland town of Pano Paphos and the coastal resort area. The resort combines a gorgeous old harbour with modern seafront restaurants, and is the perfect place to style your holiday the way you want.

Paphos is well-known for being the birthplace of the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, and you can visit her temple in the area today, as well as seeing some wonderful ancient mosaics and sights from antiquity including a fort, a Byzantine castle, St Paul's Pillar and the Tombs of the King.

You'll no doubt want to combine sightseeing with some time enjoying the glorious beaches in the area. With its clear waters and fine white sand, Coral Bay is the ideal place to chill out with a cool drink and a great book, or to enjoy one of the many watersports on offer. And don't forget to visit the modern lighthouse while you're in Paphos.

Inland, the Diarizos valley is a paradise for birdwatchers, while the cooler months make Paphos the perfect base for breaks centred around cycling or walking.
