Founded by the Phoenicians, this modern port city on the southern coast of Cyprus is a popular tourist town, bursting at the seams with historic attractions. There's evidence that this place has been lived in for 6,000 years!
You'll find a wealth of fabulous beaches, complete with great facilities. McKenzie, Phinikoudes and Yanathes are three of the most popular stretches of sand. But you'll also find fascinating ancient sites, including the remains of the Cyclopean Walls and a complex of five ancient temples, and the ninth century Church of St Lazarus.
Larnaca holidays can be really varied, with excursions to places like Larnaca Salt Lake, home to flamingos and a haven for wildlife, making it a treat for nature lovers. Look out for the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque on the lakeside.
The quaint hillside village of Lefkara, famous for its handmade lace and silverware, is situated at the base of the Sotira Mountains a short drive away, and is another fantastic day trip.

In the city centre an area just off the main promenade called Laiki Yeitonia is where most of the nightlife can be found. Some 20 minutes' drive east from the centre of town, towards Ayia Napa is the Larnaca-Dhekelia Road where you'll find most of the high end hotels, nightclubs and bars.
