From the vivid colours of the Indian Ocean to the flora of Mount Kenya, to the desert, grasslands and forest of the of the national parks and game reserves which comprise a tenth of this country’s land, Kenya is striking in its beauty.
There are two main reasons why people come to Kenya – the staggering array of magnificent wildlife to be found here, and the balmy beaches of the Swahili coast, with their African and Asian influences.
Known as the ‘cradle of humanity’ with dozens of ethnic groups, Kenya has around 40 national parks and reserves. One of the best known and most popular is the Masai Mara, in the country’s south east, and managed by the Masai tribe, a famous and semi-nomadic herding people.
Its 320 square kilometres are home to all of Africa’s big game animals, and a wonderful base for bird watching. Time your visit to coincide with the annual wildebeest migration to or from the Serengeti plains, and you are in for a majestic spectacle.
