The popular town of Los Cristianos
is an extension of the neighbouring Playa de las
Americas and is the second largest holiday resort
in the south of Tenerife. With two beautiful beaches
and all the amenities the modern traveler to the
Canaries expects, Los Cristianos is a fantastic
holiday destination for the more relaxed tourist
or those with families, as it isn't quite as hectic
as Playa de las Americas.

Sightseeing
Los Cristianos has a beautiful
old town center, complete with Catholic church,
and stretched up from the port to the main shopping
street of Avenida de Suecia. The center is totally
pedestrianised which is ideal for tourists and
a welcome change in pace from dodging taxis in
Playa de las Americas. The old center is made
up of picturesque houses in which most of the
town's Canarian population still lives. The old
port has been extended and here you can still
find an active fleet of fishing boats and, depending
on the time of year, perhaps see international
yachts of all shapes and sizes on their way to
the Caribbean.
Beaches
Los Cristianos has a fantastic stretch of beaches
along the entire seafront of the town. Playa de
las Vistas, recently completed using sand that
was imported from the Sahara is definitely one
of the best and has great facilities for children.
Right beside the port and the town center you
can find another great beach with a wide selection
of bars, restaurants, shops and watersports including
parasailing and diving. All of the beaches in
Los Cristianos are superbly maintained and clean
and have full amenities such as changing rooms,
showers, sunbeds and toilets.
Shopping
Los Cristianos is a great place to shop for a
huge selection of very inexpensive electrical
goods. It is also well equipped with tourist and
souvenir shops and clothes shops with a good range
of clubbing gear and swimwear. The El Duque commercial
center boasts a range of local crafts shops selling
products such as embroidery, volcanic sculpture
and pottery. The Place of Pearls is also worth
a visit - completely devoted to pearls and pearl
jewelry.
Activities
The Octopus Aquapark has a great dolphin show
and is fun for all the family. It offers water
rides, pools, slides and sunbeds as well as a
good selection of restaurants and bars. For shopping,
there are plenty of boutiques and shops for essentials
as well as souvenirs. Many excursions are available
from Los Cristianos, including visits to nearby
Mount Tiede, jeep safaris, go karting, fishing
and whale watching.
Culture
Only three miles from Los Cristianos, Parque
las Aguilas is one of Tenerife's not to be missed
attractions. It beautifully recreates the sensation
of being in a jungle, complete with exotic flowers
and plants and jungle trees. Parrots, white tigers
and pygmy hippos can all be seen here. Or, try
a visit to Loro Parque where over 20,000 marine
animals and plants inhabit one of the most modern
aquariums in the world. You can marvel at thousands
of neon fish lighting up their own world, or watch
sharks swim above your head.
Food
Los Cristianos has a tremendous variety and quality
of different restaurants for a casual lunch or
an evening meal. Chinese, Mexican, Spanish, Indian
and Canarian are all available, as well as the
popular English breakfasts. Los Cristianos also
has no shortage of bars where you can sample the
local brews and relax.
