Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and enjoys almost constant good weather, making it an ideal holiday destination year round. Mount Teide National Park is one of the vast protected areas within Tenerife, and is ideal for a tranquil day out walking. Without going inland the dramatic formation of rocky coastline and seemingly limitless marine life provide another option for nature enthusiasts.

Jardín Beach: Almost a full kilometer of the coast in Puerto de la Cruz has been recently revitalized, and now stretches the Punta Brava district to the Castle of San Felipe.

Martiánez Beach: This beach is located between the cliff that bears its name and the public complex of Costa de Martiánez. Several parts of the beach have black sand are are open to the sea.

Teresitas Beach: Teresitas Beach was enlarged and improved in 1973, with the addition of golden sand from the Sahara and is now protected by a breakwater.

Roque Beach: The sand on Roque Reach is dark and more abundant during the low tides. Popular with surfers, the beach has larger waves and swells. There are some excellent open-air cafés and fish restaurants near to the beach itself.

Shopping in Tenerife

Tenerife is a shopper's paradise and benefits from complete duty free status. Aside from the typical electrical items, souvenirs, tobacco and alcohol there are also some very reasonable craft shops, selling locally made goods. For the real bargains and the opportunity to practice your haggling skills the markets are the best places to head for.

If it's partying you want you'll struggle to beat Playa de las Americas for shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. As evening turns to night the town comes alive and the partying continues until the early hours of the morning. If clubbing isn't your idea of fun, head to a Spanish dance show, or maybe a quiet restaurant to experience traditional Spanish cuisine.
