Holidays in Goa

Until nearly 50 years ago, the small state of Goa, halfway down India’s western coast, was a Portuguese colony. Today, this sun-soaked region retains its laid-back feel, but has worked hard to shake off its past image as a hippy hang-out.
With 25 miles of pristine coastline, there’s a heavenly beach in Goa for every style of holidaymaker. Anjuna is dotted with busy bars, while in Arambol you can go dolphin spotting and paragliding. Baga has a vibrant nightlife, Agonda is quieter and Benaulim is know for its fresh, healthy food and relaxed atmosphere. Or enjoy a sundowner at one of the many picturesque beach bars at Palolem.
Superb though this area’s beaches are, if you want more to your break than surf, sand and sun-worshipping, Goa is crammed with plenty of other attractions. Merchants from across India come to sell their wares every week at Anjuna Flea Market, where you’ll find a wide range of souvenirs. Even if you’re not buying, it’s a good place to stroll around and mingle with the musicians, snake charmers and jugglers.
