The second largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, and just 100km off the north coast of Africa, Fuerteventura boasts more than 200km of white sand and crystal clear water, and year-round gorgeous weather. Equally, compared to other Mediterranean holiday hotspots, it’s quiet and still relatively unspoilt.
History buffs will love the traditional architecture here, and visiting Betancuria, the oldest town in the Canaries, founded in 1405 and the island’s original capital. Watersports enthusiasts are also well catered for, with a wide range of activities including diving, windsurfing and water ski-ing. Or you could just enjoy taking in the awesome volcanic landscape.
With dozens of beautiful beaches to choose from, many of them scarcely visited, you’re never far from a delightful stretch of sand on a Fuerteventura holiday. Some of the best are to be found around Jandia, on the island’s southern tip.
And you won’t be short of thing for all the family to do. Have a go at quad biking, splash out at the Baku Water Park, or check out La Lajita zoo, in a fishing village on the east coast. The kids will love the shows, horse rides and camel safaris.
